Safe Use Specifications

Input and Output Connections

The Temperature Module has the following power requirements, which are met by the unit’s power supply.

Warning

Do not replace the power supply cable unless at the direction of Opentrons Support.

  • Input: 100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 4.0 A at 115 VAC, 2.0 A at 230 VAC
  • Output: 36 VDC, 6.1 A, 219.6 W maximum

Environmental Conditions

The Temperature Module should only be used indoors on a sturdy, dry, flat horizontal surface. It must be installed in a low-vibration environment with stable ambient conditions. Keep the Temperature Module away from direct sunlight or HVAC systems that may cause significant temperature or humidity changes.

Opentrons has validated the Temperature Module’s performance in the conditions recommended for system operation. Operating the unit in these conditions helps provide optimal results. The Temperature Module is safe to use in conditions outside of the recommended ranges, but results may vary. The following table lists and defines the environmental operating conditions for recommended use and storage of your Temperature Module.

Note: Low Temperature Condensation

You may see condensation on the module’s cold surfaces upon reaching temperatures lower than ambient. The exact temperature at which condensation occurs depends on the atmospheric temperature and relative humidity in your lab. You can calculate this temperature by consulting any standard dew point index or condensation table.

Warning symbols posted on the Opentrons Temperature Module refer directly to the safe use of the instrument.

CAUTION: Hot surface.
The Opentrons Temperature Module generates enough heat to cause serious burns. Wear safety goggles or other eye protection at all times during operation. Always ensure the sample block returns to idle temperature before removing samples. Always allow maximum clearance to avoid accidental burns.

Warning: Changes or modifications to this unit not expressly approved by Opentrons could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:

  • This device may not cause harmful interference.
  • This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.

Note: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to provide a reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at their own expense.

Opentrons is dedicated to adhering to the EU Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE – 2012/19/EU). Our goal is to ensure that our products are properly disposed of or recycled once they reach the end of their useful life.

Opentrons products that fall under the WEEE directive are labeled with the symbol, signifying that they should not be thrown away with regular household waste but must be collected and handled separately.
